Chirombo Village is by Lake Malawi, near Monkey Bay. These pictures were taken in 2006 by Precious Phiri and Andrew Saidi, then aged 14. I lent them the camera every day for about a month and they took hundreds of photos. Because they are local boys they were able to take photos that a villager could not have done, and over the course of the month their skills improved wonderfully. The hundreds were narrowed down to this selection which was exhibited a couple of times, once in London and once in Norwich. Funds raised from the sale of the photos was put towards their school fees. Have a scroll through! This is a warm and intimate portrait of contemporary village life in Malawi.
